Learn with the Red Lodge Mountian Training Team

Red Lodge Mountain Alpine Training Team

The Alpine Training Team program runs for 9 consectuve Saturdays or Sundays, beginning the first weekend of January, and is one of the longest running and most successful recreational ski training programs in Montana. Over the years, we have had the pleasure of training hundreds of children, many of which have gone on to see great success in race programs such as the Silver Run Ski Club, while others have chosen to pursue their lifelong love of skiing at a recreational level. Regardless of your child's goals, our coaches will challenge them to the limit of their skill set, whether they are beginner or advanced skiers. And while the Training Team program is not race focused, we will introduce participants to the basic concepts involved in ski racing. Lesson plans are written each week by one of our experienced Training Team coaches, ensuring your child will get a thoughtful and focused lesson.

Red Lodge Mountain only chooses the most qualified and committed instructors to work as coaches for the Training Team program.  Each coach must first and foremost be certified on a national level through the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA), and are further encouraged to obtain a PSIA Children's Specialist credential. Coaches are then required to attend a minimum of two training sessions per month throughout the season in order to ensure your child is learning in a safe, fun, and structured environment.

Training Team Coach Bios:

Todd Daily

Todd began as a ski instructor with Ski Jammers, a private ski school located in Minnesota. He began teaching at Red Lodge Mountain in 2008, and has a PSIA Level II alpine certification and a PSIA Children's Specialist 1 credential. Todd's motivation to instruct comes from his desire to help others come to enjoy skiing as much as he does.

Richard Melville

Richard has been skiing for many years, and got his first experience as a ski instructor while living in Europe, where he taught his children and many of their friends to ski. It was during this time that Richard discovered that he very much enjoyed working with children and seeing them grow from first timers to confident skiers able to ski the entire mountain. Since joining the Red Lodge Mountain team, Richard has earned his PSIA Level I alpine certification and his PSIA Children's Specialist I credential, and is working towards a Level II alpine certification and a Children's Specialist II credential.

Sherrie Nevill

Sherrie is a retired special education teacher who loves to teach through play and exploration, and believes that skiing is the perfect segue for children to learn how to become active learners while exploring their environment. This philosophy has served her well as she has worked as a ski instructor for more than 40 seasons, specializing in lessons for children, women, and individuals with special needs. Sherrie is certified as a PSIA Level III alpine instructor and a PSIA Level III adaptive instructor, she carries a PSIA Children's Specialist 2 credential, and also works as a PSIA area clinician.

Scott Oleson

Scott's first ski experience was at Mammoth Mountain in California while in the fourth grade, and at the age of 16 he was the Jr. National Mogul Champion. Scott has a PSIA Level I certification, and his goal is to ensure children are comfortable with skiing, having fun, and to get them to ski a run that they thought they couldn't.

Scott Pisle

Scott has worked as a ski instructor at Red Lodge Mountain since 2009, and has been a coach on the Alpine Training Team since 2012. He received his PSIA Level I certification in 2010 and his PSIA Children's Specialist I credential in 2012. Scott enjoys improving children's skiing abilities through games and drills that help to explore the mountain while challenging them to reach new goals.

Curtis Sielaff

Curtis first put on a pair of skis in 1955, and has been in love with the sport ever since. He began his ski instructing career in Michigan in 1969, and soon after moved with his family to Colorado. During this time, Curtis taught ski lessons at Copper Mountain and Breckenridge, becoming a PSIA Level II alpine instructor in 1979. A move to Montana in 1982 led Curtis to Eagle Mount, which provides recreational opportunities to individuals with disabling conditions. Curtis helped run the Eagle Mount program for 19 years, earning his PSIA Level I adaptive instructor certification along the way. In 2008, Curtis began working for Red Lodge Mountain, where his passion for skiing and instructing is delivered in every lesson he teaches, and his underlying goal has been to get families to ski together.

Joe Wolf

Joe is a PSIA certified Level II alpine instructor with a Children's Specialist I credential, and has been instructing at Red Lodge Mountain since 2006. Prior to joining the team at Red Lodge Mountain, Joe gained a wealth of experience by working as a ski instructor for 14 years at numerous resorts, including Lost Trail in Montana, Stevens Pass and White Pass in Washington, and Alyeska in Alaska. Joe is most excited to coach young people to be better skiers, and to share his enthusiasm for the sport.
